Chortler.com is the work of Sancho Glickman, the president and chief coffee maker at the Chortler Online Satire and Muffler Emporium. Sancho first joined Chortler back in 1967, 34 years before the company was founded. Back then, as the company's sole employee, Sancho was determined to work his way up the corporate ladder. Starting as a floor-sweeper, Sancho quickly moved on to duster, dishwasher and finally, out of sympathy to his long service, he was promoted to chief coffee maker.
Sancho also does a little writing on the side. Having turned down several lucrative offers from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, Sancho decided instead to devote himself to delivering a more accurate accounting of the news.
When not tending the lawns at the Chortler Island Golf and Country Club, Sancho likes to read the works of Hungarian poet Sandor Petofi in Japanese (despite not speaking a word of the language), perfect his skills at computer solitaire and bother people who work for a living.
Site has been online since January 2001 and is updated nearly every even and odd numbered weekday.
From their About page
Founded in 2001, give or take a year, Chortler.com has been at the cutting edge of erroneous news, inaccurate reporting and insight-free analysis ever since. With headquarters in Budapest, Hungary, Chortler is comprised of co-founders Sancho Glickman and Nicolas Sélenium, two of the leading pioneers in fictitious online journalism and muffler repair. Sancho and Nicolas hit it off instantly during their first encounter at a meeting for young Hungarian entrepreneurs. Indeed Nicolas recalls their first encounter vividly: “There was Sancho standing in front of me, and I remember saying to him, 'What are you doing standing on my foot, you idiot? Did you just pour wine down my shirt? That was an expensive shirt! You're going to pay for this Glickman!'”
